I heard the word “ancestorian” for the first time at a business meeting today (of all places!).
I love the word because it conveys that the genealogist is not only researching the ancestory of a person, but also exploring the history of the times and places where those ancestors lived.
The new NBC series “Who Do You Think You Are?” is doing a fabulous job of showing this dual role of the ancestorian.
I was especially amazed that they managed to actually unearth a letter describing the death by disease of Sarah Jessica Parker’s however many times great grandfather who died in California during the Gold Rush. What were the odds that a letter like that survived?
Doing “deep” research is my passion so I guess I am a true ancestorian! While only high wealth clients can generally afford the expense of this deeper digging, anyone can get a good basic genealogy at a reasonable price.
